The Lidded Form

The lidded form gives us a multitude of avenues to explore, both technically as well as aesthetically — from cookie jars to teapots, and from casseroles to butter dishes. In this course we will explore the variations of lids, galleries, knobs and handles, and how we can make forms that bring together these various parts into a coherent, functional, and beautiful pot.
Each class will start with a demonstration of a different style of lid and gallery, and the considerations for different options.
In the first half of the course we will focus on simple forms, such as sugar pots, jewellery boxes, and cookie jars, to hone in on the technical details relevant to the lidded form.
The second half of the course will expand to more complex and altered forms, such as casseroles and teapots, and look into the tips and tricks to make it all work, as well as fit together aesthetically.

Students must:
Bring their own clay tools (beginner tool sets are available for purchase in the office on the night of the first class)
Purchase their own clay (available at ASP)
Firing and glazes at student cost
Provide own dust mask and gloves for glazing
Be 18 or over

ASP is only able to fire the clay brands/types that ASP stock
Clean up and set up times are within the 3 hours allocated for class time - any pre or post studio time must be signed in and paid for at the office.
