About: Salt firing workshop in The Don outdoor gas kiln. The workshop will run over a full day Sunday.
Everyone will be able to get about 4 mug sized pieces into the firing. Prepare 6 pieces just in case.
You will bring along your bisqued, glazed (and/or slipped) and wadded work. Please arrive by 8am at the latest as we will all load the kiln together on the morning and if you are late then you may end up with less pieces in the firing than others who are there on time.
This kiln takes 6-8 hours to fire and you must be available for the whole day, as the actual firing process will be a learning outcome of this workshop.
There are test tile examples of ASP glazes and slips fired in the Don Salt kiln in the studio. Please ask Kate or email on asp@ceramics.co.nz for their location if you’d like to consider them when preparing your work.
Once you have taken a workshop and gained some experience firing this kiln you will be able to rent out the Don kiln for supervised firings until Mike is satisfied that you can fire the kiln on your own.
This workshop is open to all members.
