workshop

Sunday 15 June 9am-4pm

Price: $160

Enrollment date: Now

Tutors: Matt McLean

About: In this course Matt will demonstrate some of his personal approaches to slip decorating and help participants produce a few pieces in response.

Some techniques will suit domesticware and are reminiscent of European folk earthenware. Slip trailing, combing or feathering, marbling and sgraffito will be covered.

Matt will also discuss how he adapts these very traditional techniques to his own sculptural work. He is particularly interested in integrating surface imagery with the three dimensional, so will explore relavènt techniques like re softening and manipulating of already decorated clay.

Matt will be using terra cotta clay available at the Centre, to contrast with white slip, but you may use whatever you like.

White and black slips, some molds, trailing bulbs and transparent glazes will be supplied. Bring any personal tools, molds joining slips etc that may be be relevant as we may be short of some items.

Please note:

Please bring food for a shared morning tea

Clean up times are within the hours allocated for class time
