Fire & Clay 2025
Fire & Clay is one of ASP’s annual exhibitions that celebrates excellence in ceramic practice and demonstrates both the depth and breadth of experience of ASP members, who range from senior practitioners to impassioned amateurs, as well as students studying in craft, design or fine arts programmes. The selector and judge for Fire & Clay this year is artist, Laurie Steer.
Laurie, based in Mount Maunganui, is a new Zealand ceramic artist know for his bold, expressive works that challenge conventional approaches to pottery. Often blending humour, social commentary and raw materiality, Street creates ceramics that are as much about process as they are about form.
A former student of Barry Brickell, Steer has gained a reputation as a fearless and provocative figure in contemporary ceramics, committed to keeping the medium vital, messy, and alive.
