Our range of mid-fire glazes are very popular with people wanting reliable, vibrant and contemporary colours. They are designed to be used on mid-fire stoneware clays and are fired in an electric oxidation firing to cone 6.

Cone 6 clear

Colour: Clear

Transparency: Clear

Surface: Glossy

About: A good all-purpose glaze for covering underglaze decoration, agateware etc. Apply very thin.

duck egg

Colour: Tan

Transparency: Opaque

Surface: Satin/matte

About: Matte tan with pale green and tan flecks depending on thickness with more variation over brown clay. Apply thinly - can crawl if too thick.

earth amber

Colour: Amber

Transparency: Clear

Surface: Glossy

About: mustard brown/ochre glaze. Works well over Sarah’s white.

floating blue

Colour: Blue/green/tan

Transparency: Opaque

Surface: Satin/matte

About: Dark blue shiny glaze with gold/tan variation through it (from rutile). Behaves differently over different clays so it’s best to test it first. If applied thickly it will form a solid greenish- tan.

matte black

Colour: Black

Transparency: Opaque

Surface: Matte

About: An even matte/satin black glaze. Layers well with Sarah’s white to form grey (when over white) or mottled grey (when under white)

Pale Matte Green

Colour: pale green

Transparency: Opaque

Surface: Satin/matte

About:  Satin matte, shinier when thicker and can crawl if too thick. Gets more variation in colour (breaks to tan) over brown clay.

sarah’s white

Colour: White

Transparency: Opaque

Surface: Glossy

About: A reliable shiny white opaque glaze that layers well with other glazes. Apply it thinly - can crawl if too thick.

Can be used for Majolica type decoration with oxides or stains applied on top – mix with a little bit of clear glaze to ensure these flux (instructions next to test tiles on wet cupboard door).

Silky white

Colour: Off-white

Transparency: Opaque

Surface: Matte

About: A matte off-white glaze, sometimes speckling tan. Will stain over time if used inside mugs. Apply it thinly - can crawl if too thick.

About: Shiny transparent mid- to-dark blue glaze. Lighter blue over Sarah’s White, mottled blue/white under Sarah’s White

Transparent green

Colour: Green/blue-green

Transparency: Clear

Surface: Glossy

About: A shiny transparent slightly bluish-green glaze that can go opalescent blue where it pools and can have brown streaks through it. Over Sarah’s White it’s an even bluish-green, no brown. Under Sarah’s White it will be a mottled green and white.

Turquoise

Colour: Turqoise

Transparency: Clear

Surface: Glossy

About: Transparent turquoise glaze, will craze (form tiny cracks). Best over white clay for clear colour. Runs badly if applied too thick – leave a good clear margin at the base and dip pots upside down if possible for best effect. Contains lithium carbonate so best used on non-food contact surfaces.
