Yixing has been recognized as a center for the production of teapots for several hundred years. The traditions have been invigorated during the past half-century to evolve new modes of expression in both use and non-functional sculpture.
In 2001 and 2005, Yixing successfully held the events of "International Ceramic Culture and Art Seminar & Ceramic Exhibition" respectively. Yixing is known as "The Center of Teapot Making of the World". The 10th Session of China Yixing International Ceramic Culture and Art Festival will be held in October 2019. The IAC and Yixing will invite ceramicists from around the world to attend "The World Ceramic Teapot Art Competition" which is expected to provide a platform to facilitate cultural exchange through ceramics between the town of Yixing and the entire world. "The Inaugural invitation to the International Ceramic Art Teapot Competition is open to every interpretation of the theme of "The Teapot"
