Sunday Workshops
In June, we organised two full-day Sunday workshops, generously funded by the Creative Communities Scheme. These workshops were facilitated by Richard Penn and Iza Lozano. Each workshop had a diverse group of participants, including 7 ASP members and 7 non-members from various craft disciplines.
The primary focus of these workshops was to foster creative development through collaboration, emphasising the process over the final product. We encouraged participants to embrace experimentation, take risks, and engage in playful exploration.
During the morning session, teams of two worked together to create stop-motion clay animations, a creative endeavor that many had never attempted before. This hands-on activity challenged participants to step out of their comfort zones and explore something completely new.
In the afternoon session, experienced ASP potters (and not so experienced ASP potters) found themselves in the role of teachers, guiding those less experienced in ceramics. In just three hours, they guided the non-ceramicists in shaping clay on the wheel and transforming their creations into abstract sculptures. The results were remarkable, as participants achieved more than they had ever imagined possible in such a short span of time.
Thank you to Creative Communities Scheme for a fully funded programme including breakfast and lunch for participants and facilitators. And thank you to Jon Waters at Swoon Media for the awesome documentary video of the workshops which can be found by clicking here.
