Artist profile: Simone Linder-Patton

Although art was one of Simone's favourite subjects at school, it was not the first career path she followed. After taking up life drawing classes, on an informal part time basis, Simone was encouraged to take on further study and returned to art studies in 2013. Recently Simone graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Visual Arts from TAFE SA Adelaide, majoring in ceramics. Simone has continued her studies with a Visual Arts Honours degree with Flinders University and TAFE SA.

In 2016 Simone had the opportunity to travel to the pottery workshop Jingdezhen, China for a six week artist's residency funded by the Helpmann Academy. There she attended many workshops and tried out some new skills and techniques including carving on greenware.

Simone has been part of many exhibitions organised through her local pottery club, a finalist in the Emma Hack Art Prize Exhibition 2017 and is currently working towards entries for various art competitions and exhibitions in the upcoming SALA exhibition series in Adelaide. As well as preparing for a group exhibition at the Peter Walker Gallery in August this year.

Simone is interested in the wide range of possibilities the medium has to offer and enjoys producing both functional and sculptural wares. Simone hand builds more than she throws on the wheel and enjoys every aspect of production from designing, making, decorating, glazing and firing especially alternate firing technologies. Simone is inspired by many artists and their techniques especially hand built wood fired wares.
