Diploma of Ceramic Arts

If you want a career in ceramics, the Diploma in Ceramic Arts (Level 6) through Otago Polytechnic's School of Art is the way to get there. You can study for this highly regarded programme at the Auckland Studio Potters centre.

This is the best available tertiary ceramics course in New Zealand.  You can study full-time over two years or part-time (up to 8 years) allowing you to tailor the course to suit your lifestyle.

Studio classes are run at the ASP centre usually on a Friday.  We employ three top-quality tutors each year at Auckland Studio Potters for the studio component of this course.

In the past few years our students have had the privilege of studying under Kate McLean (printing on clay), Margaret Sumich (building and firing a wood-fired raku kiln) and Greer Twiss (sculptural design).  Last year our students had throwing modules with John Parker and John Dawson, as well as Frank Checkett's and Brendan Adam's sculptural modules.

Alongside hands-on experience we provide facilities for the students to carry out glaze and materials testing. There are also excellent on-line and distance learning components including Drawing and Design, History and Theory of Art and Glaze Theory.

For full details phone Auckland Studio Potters on 09-634 3622 or email us for an application form.
