Classes

All enrolments must be made through our website at 8am on the day enrolments open. For more information please read our Terms and Conditions below.

Monday morning class

Taught by Peter Lange with over 40 years in clay behind him, the Monday morning class concentrates on wheel-throwing and its emphasis is on functional domesticware. We work towards firing a salt or soda kiln twice a year.

Monday evening class

A relaxed class for all levels, wheel throwing and a bit of hand building tutored by Chris Southern. There is usually interest by this class in a wood firing each year.

Tuesday morning class

A mixed class, with both experienced students and beginners tutored by Graham Ambrose. Topics covered include wheel throwing, slab vessels and glazing.

Tuesday Evening class

This class is for the intermediate thrower. Tutor Suzy Dunser is an expert thrower and our current ASP President.

Wednesday Morning Specialist Class - Peter Collis

This is a 10 week course with Peter Collis who will show you how to ‘Get Bigger’ with your pots.

Wednesday evening Beginners Class

Perfect class for those with no previous experience with clay. The fee covers all costs - tuition, clay, glazing and firing. Two tutors Jo Raill and Helen Perrett for extra assistance.

Thursday Morning Class

This class is for beginning and intermediate throwers. Tutor Renton Murray is an expert thrower and teacher and gets great results from students who want to try their hand on the wheel.

Thursday Evening Class

Throwing and hand-building with experienced tutor Brendan Adams. An ideal class for beginners to experienced students.

Sunday Morning Beginners Class

This course of eight Sunday mornings is an ideal class for those students who want to have a go, dip their toe in the mud, to see if it suits them. The course covers at a basic level the different methods of making, firing and glazing. The course fee covers all materials and firing fees.

School Holiday Kid's Class

This is a hand-building course for kids aged 7 -12 yrs during the school holidays with tutor Julia Watson. These classes will be on again during school holidays at the end of term 1 - 2018.

School Holiday Teen's Class

A school holiday course introducing throwing on a pottery wheel to teens aged 13-19 yrs with tutor Suzy Dunser. These classes will be on again during school holidays at the end of term 1 - 2018.

Diploma of Ceramic Arts

If you want a career in ceramics, the Diploma in Ceramic Arts (Level 6) through Otago Polytechnic's School of Art is the way to get there. You can study for this highly regarded tertiary qualification at the Auckland Studio Potters.

Terms and Conditions

All new applications for enrolment in classes must be made through our website. When a class is open for applications an "Apply Now" button will appear next to the "Term" information. Please note you are not enrolled in a class until you have received email confirmation.

Please DO NOT PAY for classes until you have received email confirmation that you are in the class you have applied for.

The Auckland Studio Potters reserves the right to cancel a class if it fails to achieve a minimum number of enrolments, or for reasons outside its control. A full refund will be given if the course is cancelled by ASP.

If a student cancels an enrolment one or more weeks prior to course commencement then a full refund will be given. If a student cancels their enrolment within one week of course commencement then a refund will be given minus an administration fee of $50. If a student cancels their enrolment on or after the start date of the course then no refund will be given.

The Auckland Studio Potters reserves the right to discontinue tuition for any student deemed by the Directors to be unsuitable for the course.

The Auckland Studio Potters reserves the right to change the tutor on advertised courses and replace that tutor with another suitable tutor without advertising those changes or refunding course fees.
